EXPERT CRAFTSMANSHIP IN EVERY THREAD

Every weaving boasts 400 threads,  and each one of them passes through my hands at least 10 times.

That's 4,000 touch points, a commitment to craftsmanship and detail that sets my work apart.

STEP 1 : DESIGN

The first step to creating a collection is gathering my source materials. Nature is the biggest inspiration for me, but I also pull ideas from architecture and interior design. Sometimes all it takes is a small moment - like the feel of wet moss between my toes or the way curtains refract sunlight onto the floor. These sensory experiences and inspirations are translated into color and designs sketched and calculated in my book.  Next the yarn is kettle dyed in small batches - one color at a time - with natural or low ecological impact dyes.

STEP 2: WEAVING

Once the design is calculated, the warp threads are precisely measured and carefully wound onto the loom. Each thread is assigned a specific location within the pattern, threaded by hand. With the pushing of the treddles and the throwing of the shuttle, I weave the cloth one thread at a time.

STEP 3: FINISHING

The finished works of art are cut from the loom and I finish the raw edges by twisting and hand knotting the fringe or by seaming the piece together on my professional grade sewing machine. Each final piece is washed by hand, and hung outside to dry.

New collection.

The Transcendence Collection embodies serenity, tranquility, and comfort. It’s a reminder of that first journey, and the continual work to seek breath, to nurture both soul and body, and to recognize the significance and freedoms of one’s own limitations.
