FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs

DO YOU TAKE CUSTOM ORDERS?

Yes, absolutely! I love working with clients to create bespoke and one-of-a-kind pieces. Space is always limited, so it’s best to reach out at least 4 weeks in advance for orders with deadlines. Custom orders require even more lead time around the holidays, so keep an eye out for announcements around that time. The best way to stay in the loop is to join my mailing list.

HOW DOES SHIPPING WORK?

Ready made goods are shipped domestically USPS Priority with tracking and insurance for a small fee, unless otherwise requested. Orders over $500 ship free within the US. Product is shipped within 1-2 business days upon receiving your order. International shipping is $20. Custom orders are shipped the same way, and clients will know ahead of time when shipping will occur.

WHAT FIBER DO YOU USE?

I weave using only natural fibers. I primarily use alpaca, wool (both Organic Certified and regular), and silk. I will sometimes use cotton and linen, and source certified organic cotton when available. I also prioritize domestic mills and farms.

DO YOU SPIN YOUR YARN?

I do not spin the primary yarns I use for weaving. However, I do spin for knitting/crocheting and for my own enjoyment. On special occasions, I will add hand spun elements to my weaving.

ARE YOUR WOVEN GOODS SCRATCHY?

Nope! I only use high quality, fine merino wools, premium alpaca, and fine Swiss silks for woven goods meant to come into contact with skin. These fibers have been selected and processed for ultimate softness and warmth. To accentuate their innate softness, I choose weave structures that are evenly balanced and allow fibers to move.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?

Due to the bespoke, handmade nature of my products I do not accept returns. That being said I do want you to love your handwoven piece. I am meticulous in posting photos that are as true to the color of the product as possible, but if color is a concern, please check the listing on multiple screens. Additionally, please examine size of the product using a measuring tape, to ensure you are getting the correct size.

WHAT KIND OF LOOMS ARE YOU USING?

No electric looms here! I use an antique floor loom to weave all the collection pieces and custom orders. It’s a 40” 4-harness, 6 treddle Macomber made from maple. It stands just over 4 feet tall, and weighs approximately 300 lbs.

CAN YOU SPIN OR WEAVE WITH MY PET’S HAIR?

I do not spin dog or cat fur, nor do I weave with it. There are a lot of great fiber artists that specialize in pet fur.

CAN I WASH MY HANDWOVEN GOODS?

Yes!

Wool/Alpaca/Silk Woven Goods - I recommend hand washing or talking to a professional cleaner. If you are interested in washing by hand, please see the “Caring for your Handwoven Goods” section.

Cotton/Linen Woven Goods - Unless otherwise stated on the tag, my cotton/linen goods are machine washable in cold water with mild detergent, and tumble dry low or line dry. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. When you receive one of my cotton/linen woven pieces, they will have already been run through a wash and dry cycle, ensuring little to no shrinking or twisting.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A PIECE?

Setting up the loom can take up to 60 hours, and each collection takes 3-5 months to complete. My hand is involved in every step of the process, and it’s this attention to detail and commitment to high quality craftsmanship that sets my work apart.

MEET THE ARTIST

A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Justine applies her knowledge of fine art painting and composition with the tactile nature of wool, to create woven pieces at the intersection of art and craft.

Transcend

The Transcendence Collection uses movement and color to acknowledge a journey, the sifting and sorting of details that blend history together. It’s a story, woven through time : a slow trudge in the rain, the gritting of teeth, the feeling of moss between my toes, fog in the morning, a raindrop sliding down the curve of my spine, the return of my breath, the weightlessness of floating on the lake.
